introduction

What is Liberation Theology?

Liberation Theology is a theological and social movement within Christianity that emerged primarily in the 1960s and 1970s in Latin America but has had global influence. It seeks to address issues of social injustice, inequality, and oppression from a Christian perspective.

Liberation Theology posits that the teachings of Jesus Christ, particularly his concern for the poor and marginalized, call Christians to actively work towards the liberation of oppressed people.  Liberation Theology places a strong emphasis on social justice. It sees Jesus Christ as a liberator who stood in solidarity with the poor and marginalized, and it calls for Christians to do the same.
